The thought of vegetable gardening was always appealing to me. You put plants in the ground, water them and voila! You've got something you can eat that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for you.
At least, I thought it was that easy. I didn't think to factor in types of soil, watering times, location of the sun or those sly animals/insects who want what you grow more than you do.
So it's a major victory for me to have my first ripe tomato after three years of trying! I can't say I worked incredibly hard to look after the tomatoes, because I didn't really believe they would amount to anything. But I did still plant them again this year.
And so today, #11, I'm grateful for the victories and successes that come after you've given up. The ones that take you by surprise and teach you to hope in spite of the odds. .
